Aria
2013
A hot air balloon is the simplest flying machine ever invented. Well sewn fabrics, a basket, hot air and ballast to be dropped on one's way up: a flight, an adventure. To contradict the lightness of the the flight 'Aria' sculptures are made of wood, iron and air. Marcel Duchamp closed the air of Paris in a bottle - an analogy which can be applied to aria of a journey, which carries melancholy of the places left behind and desire for movement and flying.
The sculptures of the series 'Aria' suggest an aero-static journey, a slow departure or arrival. A slow and gentle breakaway from the surface of the earth towards freedom, which in every case implies a story to be told. 'Aria' is an invitation to imagination of one's own journey towards liberty.
'Aria' as an artistic inquiry involves sculpture, painting and illustration.
